Our customer's favorite part about KD Floral....

It's surprising how many flower shops that keep four legged furry friends hidden in their back rooms....just like us. I was just reading a lovely blog about a flower studio that has their own dog...and that dog has it's own blog.  I asked Ruby if she was interested in her own blog but she barely opened one eye to look at me.  I'm going to assume that means she'd rather sleep and be adorable.  Let the hard work be done by other people.

Like the lovely This Is My Town Bemidji project.

This lovely article was done a few summers past but it's still fun to share.  Ruby - the KD Floral greeter. ( and lets not kid ourselves girls....she's clearly the most favored employee by all our customers)

wedding bells

I've read that one of the worst things you can do with blogs is write about hwo you're so sorry that you don't blog.  So my first apology is here and done.   And I've also read that you certainly can't go on and on about things in the past.  So as a quick catch-up:
1. Christmas came and went - it was crazy wonderful wild.
2. Valentines came and went - it was crazy wonderful wild.

And moving on from all of this we have our next event which in itself I'm sure is going to be... crazy wonderful wild.  The Hampton Inn and Suites Wedding Expo.

We'll be spending the week brainstorming and coming up with lovely thoughts and ideas....and maybe procrastinating a bit by reading lovely other blogs in the name of "brainstorming".  One of my favorites has this post:

for a wedding.

you group a few things together and then make pictures and send it to a bride and groom with the following note.

Dear Bride and Groom

Here are a few flowers grouped together, you might like the colourway.

Please bear in mind that these flowers are Spring flowers and your wedding is in the Summer, so the flowers will be totally different.

Also it is a really grey day here, and on your wedding day it is going to be sunny and bright, so the flowers will also look very different.

and they are just grouped, i will spend more time "arranging" them on the actual day.

In short your wedding flowers will look nothing like this, but i promise they will look nice, so you should definitely book me to do your wedding.

Yours
Miss P.

How Lovely. And True.

Late Nights.

We have had so much going on at the store.  All sorts of events that are perfect for blogging about.  Thanksgiving, winter formal, hosting the Bemidji Brewing Company inaugural event Beer Beyond Taste (If you haven't checked them out yet go here www.bemidjibeer.com....Bemidji is about to have fantastic beer made by phenomenal people ) .  However because of all of these crazy events I haven't written anything at all!  More to come...

Tomorrow is our open house.  I'm currently enjoying a lovely fire while the rest of the gingerbread cookies bake.  YUM! (okay....I'm not only enjoying the fire.. I'm also enjoying a taste or two of the cookies. busted.)

Stop in tomorrow and try a few!

The open house is going to be awesome.  We will be at the store 930a-230p.  The girls have been working so hard all week to make everything look beautiful - and it does.  It's absolutely gorgeous in there.  The poinsettias are awesome, the evergreens smell delicious and we have some new really awesome home decor (check out the gnome tree.. and the felt ornaments..love them!)

And just in case I haven't enticed you enough we're also going to have coffee from the Wild Hare (my favorite in town!) and sweet sweet sweet cupcakes from the new cakery Althea's!

It's going to be a good day.

Oh  And p.s. door prizes.

See you tomorrow!

...a day of thanks....

"It will be an outward sign of the gratefulness I have for all of the members gathered at the table, and for how thankful I am to have all of those wonderful people in my life. And as we gather around those beautiful flowers, I can only hope that each person there is reminded of the beauty of those gathered at the table." - Tim Farrell author here http://www.aboutflowersblog.com/my-thanksgiving-centerpiece/

The best part about thanksgiving is that it gives us a day to forget about all the bad news, forget about the economy, the housing market, the tornadoes and the wars.  And replace all those things with the great, the thankful. The simple blessings of our lives.  We get a moment to take all our worry, all of our stress and replace it with the love of the people around us.  We get to take that single day and pretend all that's outside our windows taking place just doesn't matter....what matters is who is sitting next to you, across from you and your loved ones in your heart.

So cheers ! Cheers to the families, cheers to the friends, cheers to the beauty, and cheers to the day of thanks.

{Happy Thanksgiving from us to you with love }

Isn't she gorgeous?! Part of what prompted me to really get this online journal of sorts going is to be able to share with you these photos from the past weekend.  My beautiful cousin married the man of her dreams and I was so honored to do the flowers.  It was so incredible to be able to be a part of their special day.

I used a variety of standard fall flowers ( mango mini callas, chilli roses, hypericum berry) and then added some items of interest including green artichoke and fern curls.  I also wanted to make sure she had a few keepsake items so there was an airplant she could pull out and place anywhere and a few succulents that could be planted later.

Lots of extra special touches went into her bouquet - for her something blue an opal ring from Grandma Dody was placed in the center. For our Grandma, who passed away this summer, the bouquet was wrapped in a hankie of hers and pinned with a guardian angel pin that Grandma wore all the time.

Ready for the real tear jerker?

After our Grandma passed away we were all in Martha's mom's garage going through the last of grandmas things. A monarch butterfly flew in and hovered around each of usand then flew out -we all felt it was our last butterfly kiss from Grandma.

The day of the wedding Martha was riding to the ceremony and at a stop sign saw a monarch flying -pointing it out to her friend she said "there's my Grandma!" The monarch immediately came over to her window and hovered around it before flying away.

Not knowing this last story Martha's mom had already bought her a silk butterfly to pin into her bouquet as a surprise.

Both grandma's were there in spirit. It was a day of such immense love.

Love to Martha and Eric from all of us.  Love and Cheers to an amazing marriage and life together to come! I love you both.
